The story
Restaurant De Lage Vuursche, at Dorpsstraat 2 in Lage Vuursche, Utrecht, serves a classic Dutch and French kitchen that has been run by the same family since 1865. Gault&Millau gave it 13 points and a chef's hat in 2026, its first listing in that guide.
Willem van Oosterom opened the restaurant in 1865. Today the fifth generation of the family runs it, led by Roderick van Oosterom. The building sits among the forests of Lage Vuursche, beside Slot Drakensteyn.
Separate lunch and dinner menus draw on familiar classics, and the wine list runs alongside them. In warmer weather, guests can take a glass of wine out on the terrace. A Salade Niçoise appears on the site as a special main course, served with a glass of wine and a coffee or tea.
