The story
De Kluizenaer serves modern French cuisine at Grote Markt 12 in Goes, and it holds a Michelin Recommended distinction for 2026. The restaurant occupies a former savings bank on the town square, with a seasonal menu built on Zeeland produce.
Chef Alex Kooman builds his French dishes around local ingredients. Fish, crustaceans and shellfish come from the North Sea and the Oosterschelde, and herbs are picked from the restaurant's own garden. On one visit, the amuse-bouche was a crispy horn filled with ham mousse, and the menu also included lightly smoked salmon trout with asparagus and lamb's ear. Guests can choose a tasting menu, a daily rotating lunch or the à la carte selection.
The building housed the Nutsspaarbank until 1961, and two old vaults still sit in the cellar. Upstairs, wooden floors, high ceilings and large plants set the tone, while murals cover the walls. Tables are dressed with linen napkins. The cheese board comes with nut bread and quince chutney, and the Olde Remeker made from Jersey cow milk stands out. Lekker500 included the restaurant in its Top 500 for 2026.
