The story
Le Basilic in Liège serves Belgo-French cooking at Rue de Chèvremont 91, 4051 Chaudfontaine, and Gault&Millau gave it 12 points in 2026. The restaurant stands a few steps from the Basilique de Vaux-Sous-Chèvremont, on the heights above Chaudfontaine.
Eric Désirant has been the chef and owner here since 1994. His French cooking revisits traditional dishes with a creative streak, and he works with fresh, seasonal ingredients. The Gault&Millau reviewers described the kitchen as creative, generous and seasonal.
The menu changes every month. Each edition offers six starters, six main courses and six desserts, and guests can assemble their own three-course menu from them. Summer special evenings have included a four-course lobster menu and a mussels and fries dinner. The guide singled out the house cocktail made with fresh strawberries and a crème brûlée flavoured with Herve cheese.
The dining room is warm and simple, with soft lighting and wooden accents. It suits a quiet dinner for two as well as a table of friends. There is outdoor seating too.
