The story
Bacon, at Zonnebeekseweg 30 in Ieper, is a seasonal kitchen where chef Virginie Gelaude cooks a gastronomic menu around what the market brings. Gault&Millau scored the restaurant 13 points for 2026, and it sits near the Menenpoort in the centre of town.
Virginie Gelaude sets the menu by the season rather than keeping a fixed card. Her produce comes from farmers, hunters and fishers across the Westhoek, and she works toward a low-waste kitchen. Guests choose a four or five course menu, and the Michelin Guide listed the restaurant as Recommended in 2026.
The current menu includes dry aged red beet with watermelon, ponzu and feta, a Bacon style paella, and veal sweetbread with pea and red wine jus. Schorenaer chicken arrives with dune asparagus and sea kale, and dessert pairs strawberry and lime with white chocolate and OLV bedstro ice cream. Dishes change with the market, so the plates on your evening may differ.
Pascal Vasseur, a former butcher, runs the front of house and makes sure guests feel at home. Non-alcoholic drinks are made in house, and the wines come from small, carefully chosen producers. In summer the terrace offers a quieter, intimate setting. Vegetarian and pescatarian diners should mention it when booking.
