The story
Sonnenberg le soir is the evening restaurant of the Hotel-Restaurant Sonnenberg at Zumhofstrasse 258 in Luzern, on the hill above Kriens. Its French kitchen, with a clear Japanese streak, holds one Michelin Star in 2026.
Head chef Luca Haase describes the cooking as friendly and French, with an exciting Japanese twist, on a menu that changes regularly. Gault&Millau awarded 15 points in 2026. The guide rated the simpler lunch offering lower and the evening menu and wine list higher, and settled on 15 as a compromise.
Gault&Millau describes the five-course evening menu as a trip through southern French cooking with detours to Japan. It might open with beetroot rolls with horseradish and apple, followed by a tonic and bergamot foam with cucumber pearls. Veal sweetbread comes with black truffle, and quail is layered under a piquillo pepper, with agnolotti filled with the leg meat. Japanese aubergine appears with shiitake, miso and a kujo negi vinaigrette. A raspberry dessert with matcha, yuzu and white chocolate is paired with one of the dessert wines from the extensive list.
The restaurant sits at 700 metres and seats 120, with a panorama over the Lucerne area and Mount Pilatus. By day the same house serves relaxed lunch menus, and in the evening the tasting menu takes over. The hotel-restaurant is run by Verein Sonnenberg as a training business in the hospitality trade, and restaurant manager Jessica Meylan leads the dining room.
