The story
al lago is an Italian contemporary restaurant in Locarno, in the garden of the Castello Seeschloss hotel at Via Circonvallazione 26. It holds a Michelin Recommended listing for 2026 and a Gault&Millau rating of 13 for the same year.
Italian chef Alberto Pavan leads the kitchen, which Gault&Millau describes as regional and lightly Mediterranean. Lunch offers a choice of dishes of the day, while the evening menu turns to local and Mediterranean plates. Afternoons bring snacks, cakes and coffee.
Reviewers praised a mini bouillabaisse served as an amuse-bouche, a sashimi of amberjack, and a delicate char fillet from the lake. The main course that stood out was beef cheeks braised slowly in a deep Merlot jus, served with mashed potatoes.
The restaurant sits in a green garden on the lakeside piazza, with views across Lake Maggiore to the Brissago islands. Guests can also relax by the hotel's heated pool, where snacks and ice cream are served.
