The story
Riva, at Piazza G. Motta 25 in Ascona, is a Mediterranean seafood restaurant listed in our Locarno index. Gault&Millau awarded it 14 points in 2026, and chef Elena Carsino builds the menu around fish and shellfish on the shore of Lake Maggiore.
The catch of the day is written on a blackboard and then grilled or baked in a salt crust, with the fish filleted at the table. The menu also lists crudités, lobster and burgers beside classic freshwater and saltwater dishes. Reviewers singled out the mixed fried seafood, with squid, shrimp and cod in a light batter served alongside thin baked zucchini strips.
The interior mixes retro and modern details, with 35 seats inside and 60 on the terrace. The terrace keeps a summer feel all year. The team will suggest a glass of wine to match your order, even if you only want one.
