The story
Hewelke serves modern cuisine at Jana Kilińskiego 7 in Gdańsk's Wrzeszcz district, and its 2026 Michelin Bib Gourmand recognises good quality, good value cooking. The restaurant occupies part of the historic Hevelius brewery and takes its name from Jan Heweliusz, the Gdańsk brewer, scholar and astronomer.
Marcin Popielarz, a chef patron known from Gdynia's Biały Królik and Biôłi Trus in Sulęczyno, leads the kitchen. The menu crosses borders with unexpected pairings: Galician-style octopus appears beside Żuławy-style herring, and Peking duck sits next to Sichuan rabbit. Sea bass arrives with a green mango salad.
The open kitchen sits in restored cellars with raw brick walls and vaulted brick arches, under low lamps. Guests start with bread from the in-house bakery, served with burnt butter. The wine list includes many wines by the glass and several Polish producers, and the gin and whisky selection stands out. The large room suits family celebrations and corporate dinners.
