The story

De Coterie in The Hague: Modern Cuisine with European Produce

De Coterie is a modern cuisine restaurant at Theresiastraat 37 in The Hague, and Gault&Millau gave it a score of 12 for 2026. The kitchen builds its menu around European and local ingredients, and it changes with the seasons.

Produce from nearby and from Spain

Fish comes from the North Sea and other European waters, and the meat comes from European pastures. The team picks herbs and flowers by hand in nearby Wassenaar. The restaurant also imports directly from Spain, bringing in almonds, olives, olive oil, Pata Negra, anchovies, mojama and red vermouth.

Sharing the table

The format is fine dining made approachable, with the whole table tasting the dishes together. Lekker500 included the restaurant in its Top 500 for 2026, and its reviewer sat at the chef's table to watch Gabriel Gomez cook. Vegetarian dishes sit alongside fish and meat on the menu. The wine list stays within Europe, and so do the cocktails, which draw on places across the continent.

Lekker500 — Top 500

Three young dogs with one shared goal: to run a wonderful restaurant where European products take center stage (wines included) and add exactly that little something that makes guests talk about it and return. And they’re doing it in one of The Hague’s most charming spots: on Theresiastraat in Bezuidenhout. Chef Gabriel Gomez—who lived in Spain for several years during his youth, a fact clearly reflected in the flavors on the menu—and his two partners have known each other since childhood and share the same approach to running the business. Their enthusiasm is palpable, and not just that: they master their craft down to the finest details. Gabriel (Gabi) loves cooking with vegetables, and the quirky menu features plenty of vegetarian options. Every dish is surprising and far from ordinary. Shared dining is the norm here. The recommendation is to choose two dishes per person, and we gladly follow that advice. We are lucky enough to be seated at the intimate chefs’ table, allowing us to closely follow the chef’s every move. A lovely atmosphere prevails, and the music and chatter are truly uplifting. We start with a Cava Brut Rigol and order appetizers such as freshly sliced mojama with pistachios and lemon, alongside pickled anchovies served with olives and homemade chips. Our visit is already a success. But there’s more to come. Monkfish with smoked paprika oil, citrus, pickled radish, and fermented capers made from wild garlic is not only a feast for the eyes but tastes like Mother Nature at her absolute best. Next up, vegetarian ravioli filled with cream cheese and mushrooms, drizzled with chanterelle sauce, garnished with dollops of smoked egg yolk cream and drops of sesame oil, and sprinkled with porcini powder along with brioche croutons. We pair it with a beautiful Campuget 1753 Viognier. The Hague can surely count itself lucky to have this gem, which also turns out to be incredibly affordable. Welcome to Lekker.
