The story
De Basiliek is a modern cuisine restaurant at Korte Houtstraat 4a in The Hague, and the Michelin Guide gave it a Bib Gourmand for 2026 for good-quality, good-value cooking. It sits in the city centre, within walking distance of Centraal Station.
The kitchen describes its food as international and Mediterranean, with an aim of honest, affordable cooking in a relaxed setting. The menu is renewed about every three months, so the dishes rotate. Guests can also assemble their own menu from the regular selection, in formats running from two to six courses, with an optional wine arrangement.
Among the small bites, the bitterballen and squid with pepper and salt sit alongside oysters. Cod bao bun comes with tartare sauce and ikura, and the tuna crudo is paired with ginger, jalapeño, watermelon radish and crispy rice. For a main course, the Iberico arrives with barbecued Jerusalem artichoke, sage and mustard gravy. The prime rib, served for two at one kilo, comes with pepper sauce, chimichurri, salad and fries. The verveine panna cotta, with mango, white chocolate and lychee, closes the meal.
Stained glass windows let in soft, diffuse light, and Gault&Millau describes the space as having an almost sacred atmosphere. The restaurant also hosts groups, with private parties, weddings and buffets arranged to suit each occasion. It offers air conditioning and outdoor seating, and reservations can be made by phone or through the website.
