The story
De Matroos en het Meisje serves French and international cooking at Delistraat 52 in Rotterdam's Katendrecht district, and holds a Gault&Millau rating of 13 for 2026. The corner building looks out over Deliplein, and the kitchen is open to the room.
There is no à la carte here. The kitchen cooks to the seasons, and you decide only how many courses to eat, from four to six. Dinner runs seven days a week, with lunch on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Eva Eekman, who also owns Héroine and Putaine, runs the restaurant, and Taco de Vos hosts the floor. Vegetarians are accommodated if you mention it when booking.
Lekker500 listed the restaurant in its Top 500 for 2026, and the reviewer's meal shows the range. A light bitterball came filled with coeur de boeuf tomato and horseradish. Hamachi followed with caper vinaigrette, kohlrabi leaves and fermented tulip petals. The turbot arrived in a fermented tomato sauce, and braised beef came with beurre blanc, truffle and chard. Dessert and cheese stay in a classic French mould.
Walls and tiles are painted in Delft blue, some showing Rotterdam landmarks such as the Euromast. White linens and checkered napkins sit on the tables. The wine list leans on small producers who work with respect for nature. There is no pairing menu, so you choose bottles yourself.
