The story
Tante Kee in Leiden, at Julianalaan 14 in Kaag, holds a Michelin Recommended (2026) listing for its French kitchen with Eastern accents. The restaurant sits on the Kaageiland in the Kagerplassen, and the little ferry from Buitenkaag is the way in.
The kitchen works with set menus that change with the seasons, from three to seven courses at dinner, plus a separate lunch menu of three, four or five courses. Wherever possible, the team uses organic and regional products. Recent plates have included burrata with celery root and roasted almonds, kingfish ceviche with passion fruit and orange, and an entrecôte with slow-braised beef cheek, with the sauce poured at the table. The blackberry dessert, finished with white chocolate and fresh tarragon, closes the meal on a light note.
In summer, the terrace sits right on the water, and small boats dock nearby as guests eat. In the colder months, the redesigned interior with wooden tables and luxury armchairs becomes the main room. Service is led by Kim Edwards, and visitors describe it as relaxed and friendly. Reservations are advised, especially in summer.
