The story
The Bishop, at Middelweg 7 in Leiden, is an international kitchen with Asian and French influences that Michelin listed as Recommended in 2026. The restaurant occupies a historic building more than a century old, with an open kitchen on the ground floor and a dining room upstairs.
Chef Jim Dijksterhuis cooks classic dishes with an Asian twist, according to the Lekker500 review of 2026. Guests can order à la carte or choose a chef's menu of four, five or six courses. The printed menu lists lamb rack with rösti and pistachio, and steak tartare with bone marrow, egg yolk and sourdough toast.
Gault&Millau scored the restaurant 13 points in 2026, praising the lively atmosphere and the eager service. Wooden beams and cast-iron pillars give the space its character. Sommelier pairings can arrive a little after the dishes, so it helps to ask the team about timing when you book.
