The story
Ponte Vecchio, at 1-8-16 Kitahama, Chuo-ku in Osaka, is an Italian restaurant that earned a Gault&Millau score of 16 in 2026 and a Michelin Recommended listing the same year. The kitchen is led by owner-chef Daisuke Yamane, and 2026 marks the restaurant's 40th anniversary.
Yamane was born in Osaka in 1961 and trained at Tsuji culinary school. He moved to Italy in 1984 and worked in Milan, first at Gualtiero Marchesi, before returning to open in Osaka in 1986. The restaurant says it puts seasonal produce and "optimal cooking" first, then shapes Italian habits around his Osaka background, which it calls Yamane-style Italian.
The restaurant describes itself as a playground, aiming for a striking first bite. Cutlery, glasses and interiors are made as original as possible. A 40th anniversary course is currently listed, and the dining room offers outdoor seating and air conditioning, with lunch and dinner service.
