The story
Zelna Borbisztró in Balatonfüred, Hungary, is a modern Hungarian wine bistro at Zákonyi Ferenc utca 3-5, and Gault&Millau gave it a score of 13 in 2026. It started as a wine bar pouring the owners' own vintages from their organic winery near Lake Balaton, and it now runs a kitchen that cooks with the same care.
The breaded blood sausage comes with foie gras, truffled cauliflower and cabbage. It takes the familiar Hungarian pairing of sausage and cabbage and refines it without losing its character. The fish soup is clear rather than heavy, built from several kinds of fish and finished with a poached catfish fillet that holds its shape. The Michelin guide lists the restaurant as Recommended for 2026.
The building on Zákonyi Promenade is modern and minimalist, with a covered terrace and an interior in the style of a wine bar. You can stop in just for a glass, but the food rewards a longer visit. The wine list draws on Zelna's own bottles and on wines from neighbouring cellars. Tasting and wine pairing menus are also available.
