The story
Sparhelt is a modern cuisine restaurant at Szent István tér 7 in Balatonfüred's old town, and it holds the Michelin Bib Gourmand for 2026, recognising good quality, good value cooking.
The kitchen draws on Hungarian and international flavours and takes familiar dishes somewhere unexpected. Its kohlrabi főzelék (creamed kohlrabi) looks nothing like the home-style version most Hungarians grew up with. A five-course tasting menu is offered in meat-based and vegetarian versions, and some produce comes from the restaurant's own garden.
A seafood soup with fennel and chargrilled octopus with shrimp and mussels were especially memorable on a visit. A guinea fowl suprême, served with a savoury "muesli", roasted carrot and a ratatouille jus, shows how much care goes into a seemingly simple main. The menu has also featured smoked sturgeon from Keszthely with fermented rhubarb, and cottage cheese dumplings with almond brittle and salted caramel.
The dining room sits on the ground floor of a modern residential building and opens onto a spacious, leafy terrace. The wine list carries Hungarian and international bottles alongside local producers, with many options by the glass.
