The story
Gasthaus Sternen Post sits at Hauptstraße 30 in Oberried, just outside Freiburg, where the country cooking is built on local produce. The Michelin guide listed it as Recommended in 2026, and the Schlemmer Atlas awarded it 2,5 Kochlöffel the same year.
Local trout, regional game and vegetables from nearby farms form the core of the kitchen. Press coverage describes Bernd Lutz as the cook behind the menu, and says he spent ten years as right hand to Alfred Klink at the Colombi. The house favours organic and seasonal goods, and the team keeps close contact with its suppliers. A regional newspaper restaurant test singled out cabbage rolls with venison filling.
The inn dates to 1875 and sits on a large garden plot in the middle of the village. Its rustic, bright dining rooms were renovated in an old country style, and the furniture was made from local timber. The sunny terrace looks out over the neighbouring monastery and church toward open meadows. Guests can stay in hotel rooms or holiday apartments, and free Wi-Fi covers the whole building.
The wine list draws mostly on growers from Kaiserstuhl, the Markgräferland and the Ortenau. The restaurant buys green electricity and fits its taps with water-saving aerators. It has also completed an environmental programme that reviewed its weak points.
