The story
Frenchette, at Madridstraat 12 in Ostend, is a French brasserie that Gault&Millau scored 12 points in 2026, and Michelin lists it as Recommended that year. The menu takes a modern Parisian brasserie approach, and the room sits close to the town's nightlife streets.
Dinner comes in two formats. The three-course menu NOT TO SHARE lets each guest choose, while the TO SHARE menu puts dishes in the middle of the table for everyone. On Fridays and Saturdays only the sharing menu is served. The chefs move through world cuisine, local products and the restaurant's terroir cooking. Both formats were priced at €69 per person for the summer season listed on the reservation page.
The summer sharing menu included veal tartare with watermelon, feta and almond, and sardines with caponata and puff pastry. Iberian pluma came with courgette, tomato and rocket pesto. Cheese was Morbier with nectarine, sourdough and walnut, and dessert was raspberry millefeuille with white chocolate and mojito sorbet. Cheese or dessert added €6 per person.
The dining room is decorated with a playful hand, and many of its objects are for sale. The bar uses pieces that mostly date from the last century. From 17:00 until midnight it serves aperitifs, a good glass of wine, espresso martini and Irish coffee. While the chefs cook, guests can order the dinner snacks one by one, plus a small fingerfood card. Bar seats cannot be reserved.
