The story
Bistro Mathilda is a modern bistro at Leopold II-laan 1 in Ostend, where the kitchen centres on North Sea seafood and earned 13.5 out of 20 from Gault&Millau in 2026.
The owners buy their fish directly from coastal fishermen. Grey shrimp appear in a crisp salad and in croquettes with a creamy filling. Skate wings are browned meunière, served with buttermilk mash, fennel and a fine butter sauce.
The steak tartare is prepared at the table from Blonde d'Aquitaine beef, served with salad and fries. The bistro kitchen follows the seasons, so the menu shifts from one month to the next. Dessert leans classic, with a Normandy pancake and vanilla ice cream.
