The story

Café du Parc, Ostend: Belgian Brasserie in an Art Deco Hotel

Café du Parc is a Belgian brasserie at Marie-Joséplein 3 in Ostend, rated 13 in the Gault&Millau guide for 2026. It sits inside the Hotel du Parc, built in 1929, and serves everything from breakfast to dinner.

Bistro classics from Shannah Zeebroek

Shannah Zeebroek, born and raised in Ostend, shapes a menu that runs through the whole day. Gault&Millau singles out the refined bistro classics, including creamy, finely crusted shrimp croquettes with a slight kick. Le Fooding, which lists the café for 2026, praises a grilled lettuce heart with crushed pistachios and Zeeland mussels with sorrel in a beurre manié sauce. Its tartare of Bordelaise beef shoulder comes with fries straight from the fryer.

The Art Deco room

The café keeps its ornate counter, marbled tables and period pendant lights. Le Fooding notes that James Ensor and Albert Einstein once sat on the terrace. That terrace still takes walk-ins at aperitif hour, and the Belgian brasserie kitchen is easy to reach for a solo lunch, a family table or a larger group.

It would seem that the sea air certainly worked its magic on boosting the brain cells of James Ensor and Albert Einstein, as they once sat on the terrace of this Art Deco institution (ornate counter, marbled tables, period pendant lights), nestled in the hotel of the same name built in 1929. A century later, it’s now the turn of Shannah Zeebroek, born and raised in Ostend, to be inspired for the solid menu that spans breakfast to dinner. For us, at lunchtime: lettuce heart duly grilled and adorned with crushed pistachios; Zeeland mussels with sorrel in a beurre manié sauce; as well as a classic tartare made from a cut of Bordelaise beef shoulder that’ll have you licking the knife clean, served met fries straight from the fryer. No doubt about it, we’ll be back as the tide comes in! // Anita Kane
