The story
The Black Knife is a French restaurant in Hasselt, at Plattestraat 41, Wellen, 3830, and received 14 points from Gault&Millau for 2026.
Chef Yanaika Skrzyszkowiak runs the kitchen with her partner Niels Vranken. They source local products wherever possible and follow a strict no food waste principle, which is why the restaurant serves a fixed menu. Yanaika finished second in the first edition of the TV show Mijn Restaurant in 2008. Her earlier restaurant, Exquisa in Hasselt, was known for its potato dishes, and in 2011 she was named BRU Ladychef of the Year.
Gault&Millau describes the cooking as a French kitchen with Belgian and Oriental influences. One signature is wagyu shaped into a rose, served with chioggia beet and ponzu. Dinner follows a multi-course format, with six courses on Saturdays and an optional Chef's Bite. The lunch menu changes weekly around the day's market produce.
