The story
Brousse Table is a café-restaurant at Kunstlaan 18 in Hasselt, Belgium, serving seasonal breakfast and lunch in a former bank. Le Fooding listed the venue in 2026, noting it as a social hub where food, art and clubbing overlap.
Elien Gielen serves the menu, which changes with the seasons. On a lunch visit recorded by Le Fooding, one plate was a kimchi buchimgae, a crispy Korean pancake made with homemade kimchi and parmesan, served with a soy sesame dip. Another was a British crumpet topped with fromage frais, avocado, pickled onions and a soft-boiled egg with a runny centre. The meal ended with a tahini sesame cookie and a slice of chocolate coffee cake with whipped cream.
The building has a brutalist character, built from concrete, wood and steel. UAU architecture studio transformed the abandoned bank into a gathering place. Lunch is served at stainless steel tables. Brousse also curates art exhibitions several times a year, and its separate club nights move between unusual locations.
