The story
L'Écailler du Palais Royal serves seafood at rue Bodenbroek 18 in Brussels, in the Sablon antiques district near the church. Gault&Millau awarded it 14 points for 2026, and the Michelin Guide lists it as Recommended that year.
Marcel Kreusch opened the restaurant in 1967 after seeing a London restaurant that served only fish, shellfish and crustaceans. The kitchen keeps that focus. Plates are generous, and the seafood is cooked to show the quality of the product. Gault&Millau singles out the gambero rosso tartare as a dish worth ordering.
The building is a listed 17th-century house at the foot of the Sablon Church. The ground floor has small tables, cosy benches and a bar with a club feel. The upper floor is quieter and can host private events for up to 35 guests. The room has air conditioning for hot days, and the dress code is casual chic.
