The story
Max & Moi is at Grand Place Baudouin Premier 4 in Braine-l'Alleud, Belgium, where its modern French cooking earned 14 points in the Gault&Millau 2026 guide. The restaurant occupies a carefully renovated townhouse in the town centre, and the kitchen works with Belgian terroir and short-supply local produce.
Julien Hauspie runs the kitchen. He was sub-chef under David Martin at La Paix, which the restaurant's site describes as a two-star Michelin house, and he also trained in larger Belgian kitchens and in New Zealand. The menu gives him a free hand, and he reinterprets local ingredients with a bold, modern approach. Michelin lists Max & Moi as Recommended for 2026.
The tasting menus range from a five-course lunch to a twelve-course menu served at every service, and a wine pairing is available. Courses named on the menu include a radish dish, mackerel with cucumber and whipped buttermilk, and a Croque Saint Jacques. A sea bream with peas and lemon is offered as a chef's suggestion that can be added to the set menu.
The owners, Pina and Max, run the front of house, moving between the dining room and the bar. The restaurant lists a bar, dinner service, outdoor seating and private parties among its features. Groups larger than six are asked to book by email or phone. Guests can park on the street opposite or in a private car park about 90 metres behind the restaurant.
