The story
Villa am See, at Seestrasse 64 in Zürich, is a modern cuisine restaurant that Gault&Millau scored 15 points for 2026. Sandro Lüthi, host and chef, runs the kitchen and greets guests himself.
Lüthi took over as host in spring 2024. He worked in several restaurants and hotels before completing the chef's diploma with federal certificate at 22, the youngest in his year. He describes cooking as a calling rather than a job.
The Gault&Millau review praised a quail galantine served with chawanmushi and a crisp spring roll filled with quail. Tuna tataki and tartare came with palm heart and shiso sorbet. The reviewer liked the potato gnocchi with clams, scallops, saffron and tomato stock, but found the sous vide turbot overloaded with components. Dessert is a trompe-l'oeil pear of yogurt foam and poached pear, served with salted caramel panna cotta.
Lake views shape the setting. In summer, guests sit on the terrace facing the water, and a large pavilion takes over when the weather turns cooler or unsettled. The restaurant is fully wheelchair accessible by lift, with a toilet for wheelchair users and a parking space reserved by the house.
