The story
Equo 1706 is the gourmet restaurant of Hotel Rössli at Seestrasse 52 in Weggis, on the shore of Lake Lucerne in Luzern. The modern cuisine here earned 14 points from Gault&Millau in 2026, and the restaurant is also recommended by the Michelin Guide that year.
Matthias Gäth, a chef from northern Germany, has run the kitchen since 2019. The card is deliberately short. Dinner is a menu of four to seven courses, and a vegetarian version is available. Regional ingredients of high quality shape most dishes.
A recent Gault&Millau visit opened with whitefish from the Vierwaldstättersee, served on cucumber, yogurt and radish. Wild garlic soup arrived with a goat cheese tartlet and horseradish, and the Alpstein chicken with celery and morels won clear praise. The meal closed with a salted caramel ice cream, paired with pear and pecan.
The dining room is elegant, and the service is described as quick and friendly. The wine list is wide and priced fairly. The kitchen also cooks with herbs from its own garden and with wild shrubs such as elderberry and dog rose.
