The story
Regina Montium, the restaurant of the Kräuterhotel Edelweiss at Staffelhöhenweg 35 in Rigi Kaltbad (Luzern), holds one Michelin star as of 2026. The Swiss kitchen sits at 1550 metres above sea level and draws heavily on the hotel's own garden.
Chef Benedikt Voss cooks from recipes gathered around the world, then adapts them to what grows and lives near the mountain. Herbs from the large garden shape much of the menu. Gault&Millau gives the kitchen 16 points (2026) and calls it nonconformist, a cuisine that asks for some attention at the table.
The "Wäscheleine" opens the meal: beetroot, dried venison, cabbage blossoms, radishes and sweet-sour carrots hang from a miniature washing line with clothes pegs. Black Alpine pork tartare comes rubbed with lime mint. Lake Zug whitefish arrives with lovage in several forms (leaves, fermented stems, oil) and potato chips from Blaue St. Galler potatoes. The lamb comes from the Rigi itself, with herb-rapeseed hollandaise and fried onions.
Between courses, a hay granita made from the aromatic second cut is served with cider. The wine list is organised by producer and pours only Swiss wine, with an emphasis on women winemakers and organic estates.
