The story
LALÚ Bistro, at Trg celjskih knezov 3 in Celje, Slovenia, serves modern International cuisine and holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand for good quality, good value cooking (2026). The bistro sits in the centre of Celje and works across Asian, French, Slovenian and Italian influences.
Chef Damjan Čulk leads the kitchen, and owner Marko Pavčnik sets the creative direction. The menu changes often with the seasons and the kitchen's mood. Gault&Millau awarded it 13.5 in 2026 and noted that the local and the global share the same table here. Ramen, štruklji, bao burgers and crispy fried chicken appear side by side without feeling forced.
The roasted cauliflower is the kitchen's signature, served with truffle cream and toasted hazelnuts. Homemade štruklji come with browned cream, mushroom sauce and parsley, a traditional Slovenian plate given a modern treatment. The ramen with gochujang sauce, gamberi and peanuts is a bolder option, and the bao burger with crispy veal and kimchi shows the Asian side of the menu. Cold starters such as beef tartare and tuna tataki sit alongside a Slovenian charcuterie selection.
The space is a small gourmet bistro with a relaxed, modern look. Plates are built for sharing, so ordering several dishes for the middle of the table is a common approach. On weekdays between 12:00 and 15:00, the bistro also serves a set business lunch of starter, soup and main course.
