The story
Galerija okusov, in Celje, is a modern cuisine restaurant at Novo Celje 9 in Petrovče, set within the Novo Celje Mansion. Gault&Millau awarded it 17 points in 2026, and the menus are built around seasonal ingredients from local suppliers.
The kitchen gives humble produce like wild garlic, kohlrabi, leek and Jerusalem artichoke the same care it gives to pricier ingredients. Trout, game and lamb appear in layered compositions that stay connected to the garden, meadow, forest and river. The team chooses what to cook according to what nature dictates, and the modern kitchen techniques keep the plates precise rather than nostalgic.
The à la carte opens with beef tartare under a fried yolk, with pickled red onion and a hazelnut cracker. A trout ceviche arrives with sweet potato cream and wakame. Mains include veal loin with miso parsnip sauce and beef shoulder with béchamel and beer sauce. Dessert might be chocolate brownie with orange sorbet, or quince with baked cottage cheese mousse and a mulled wine granita. A tasting menu is also served, with each course building on the one before.
Lunch service runs Wednesday to Saturday, and a reservation is required. A simple lunch costs 24 euros per person, and a family lunch costs 34 euros, with a children's menu at 16 euros. The wine list is extensive, and the non-alcoholic pairing receives as much attention as the bottles. In the warmer months, the garden hosts themed culinary events, which give the restaurant a looser and more lively side.
