The story
Sukerieje is a Dutch restaurant at Rodetorenplein 16 in Zwolle, listed as Recommended in the Michelin Guide for 2026. Chef Yannick Roodhof cooks here with vegetables in the lead, in the basement of the Hopmanshuis.
Roodhof treats vegetables as the story of the plate, not a side. He is not dogmatic about it, though, and will add North Sea sole or meat from a local farmer when the dish calls for it. He trained at the Cas Spijkers Academie and worked at De Lindenhof in Giethoorn and at Restaurant Niven in Rijswijk. His affection for traditional Dutch flavours shows in the cooking.
The regular menu opens with Dutch salmon, potato, horseradish and wild garlic, then moves on to Ermelose duck with beetroot and purple curry. The plant-forward menu includes Opperdoezen Ronde potato with wasabi leaf and walnuts with rhubarb. Roodhof's signature is a vegan foie gras made from cashews. Lekker praised it in its 2026 Top 500 write-up, and the restaurant is listed there again this year. A wine pairing follows the courses.
The dining room sits below street level and is decorated in a calm Scandinavian style. Guests can watch the open kitchen from their tables. In summer there is a terrace on the square. Lunch is served on Fridays and Saturdays.
