The story
Le Jardin, at Mariaplaats 42 in Utrecht, is a vegetable-led French kitchen that Gault&Millau scored 12 in 2026. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner, with a tasting menu format that puts plants at the center of every course.
The kitchen cooks with vegetables and herbs first, mostly in season and mostly from nearby growers. French technique gives the cooking its structure, and the team adds meat, fish or poultry only now and then. Most dishes are plant-based at their core, with fish or meat available for a supplement.
Lunch comes as a two-, three- or four-course menu, and dinner runs from four to six courses, with a cheese course that can replace dessert. The à la carte pairs one main vegetable with a few sharp or warm accents. Asparagus arrives with chickpea, sesame and Thai basil, and fennel with harissa, vinegar and mayonnaise. Sweet courses follow the same logic, such as blueberry with mint, chocolate and pistachio, or raspberry with sweet potato and almond.
The terrace puts diners in the middle of the city, while the open kitchen inside lets guests watch the cooking. Michelin lists Le Jardin as Recommended for 2026, a sign of how consistently the vegetable-focused menu has held attention in Utrecht.
