The story
Restaurant Blauw Utrecht, at Springweg 64 in Utrecht, is an Indonesian kitchen that earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2026 for good-quality, good-value cooking. Lunch and dinner are served, with outdoor seating and air conditioning inside.
Chef Hendra Subandrio grew up in Jakarta and first cooked in a toko in Laren. He worked at Blauw Amsterdam before returning to lead the Utrecht kitchen in 2019. Each year he travels back to Indonesia, then turns what he tastes there into dishes of his own. Gault&Millau scored the restaurant 13 out of 20 in 2026.
Asam Padeh was the dish Hendra named as the best on the menu at the time. Fish is fried crisp on the skin and served in a sweet-sour, spicy sauce with kemirinoten, a nutty Indonesian nut that gives the sauce body. The rijsttafel is ordered for two and is identical at both Blauw locations.
