The story
Zheng, at Prinsestraat 33 in The Hague, is a fusion restaurant that builds its menu on the Chinese imperial banquet tradition, and the Gault&Millau guide gave it 14.5 points for 2026. The Michelin guide lists it as Recommended for the same year.
Head chef Han Ji works from the Zheng banquet, a feast held the day after New Year in imperial China, when senior officials were served as many as 120 dishes. The restaurant takes that idea into a menu of "chapters." Each chapter centres on one main component, supported by three or four smaller delicacies. The kitchen also draws on Traditional Chinese Medicine for its herb and spice combinations.
The signature dish is a half Barbary duck with a crisp skin, served with Chinese pancakes and a 5-grain rice. Guests have described the duck being carved at the table. Other chapters include Iberico pork loin with a spiced passion fruit sauce, and Black Angus beef tenderloin and oxtail with saffron pearl barley. A vegetarian banquet is also on offer.
Each chapter comes with a tea selected by the team, ranging from smoky, nutty blends to fresh floral ones. Wine pairings and tea-infused cocktails are available as alternatives. The dining room uses blue tones, hand-carved wooden doors, Chinese art and porcelain tableware.
