The story
Hof van Herstal is a fine dining restaurant in Sittard, at Pepinusbrug 8 in the Peij district, where chef and winemaker Martin Bruggeman cooks classic cuisine. Gault&Millau awarded the restaurant 12.5 points for 2026.
Martin Bruggeman learned his craft in kitchens with one or two Michelin stars, including Chateau Neercanne, Restaurant Scholteshof in Belgium and Schillinger in Colmar. He earned the Meesterkok title in 1993. The kitchen uses as many regional products as it can, and Michelin lists the restaurant as Recommended for 2026.
The four-course Menu Pepijn costs €44 and has featured coppa with Cavaillon melon, poached cod with pasta in a white wine sauce, and Limburg pork with celeriac mousseline. Dessert is house-churned ice cream with mascarpone, Limburg strawberries and popcorn. The six-course Menu Gastronomique, priced at €71 per table, mixes fish and meat courses. Vegetarian versions of both menus can be arranged.
The building was a guest house of Lilbosch Abbey and was completed in 1890. The Bruggeman family acquired it in 1992 and restored it over several renovations. Guests notice the mosaic floor, which the monks laid, as soon as they open the heavy front door. In good weather, the garden terrace is open. Giny Bruggeman welcomes guests as hostess and takes care of allergy and dietary requests.
