The story
G7 Restaurant at Gruizenstraat 7 in Sittard serves a French kitchen with International touches, and Gault&Millau awarded it 15 points in 2026. Chef and owner Rik Opstals builds the menu around produce from his own garden, and the restaurant also appears in the Lekker500 Top 500.
Rik Opstals cooks many of his vegetables and herbs from his own garden, and the seasonal harvest shapes the menu. There is no set course list. Guests choose a menu of eight, nine or ten creations, made up of amuse-bouches and dishes from the kitchen, and a vegetarian version is available. Dinner is served Tuesday to Saturday, with a Saturday lunch.
The signature dish is purple carrot in a crisp shell, filled with purple carrot tartare and finished with horseradish and ginger foam, nori crumble and ponzu vinaigrette. For the main course, reviewers praise the lamb fillet with wild garlic hollandaise and smoked asparagus, served with a small plate of lamb shank. Dessert is rice pudding with rhubarb and cardamom ice cream.
The Gruizenkerkje dates to the 17th century, and the restored interior keeps its pulpit and church pews. Pastel pink LED lighting now plays across the space. In summer, a patio shaded by large parasols extends the room outdoors. Wines are paired with each course, and a non-alcoholic pairing is offered alongside the alcoholic one. Sommelier Danny Meijers oversees the glass selection and often pours himself.
