The story
Putaine is a modern French and international restaurant at Antoine Platekade 996 in Rotterdam, set inside the Floating Offices on the Rijnhaven. The Michelin Guide lists it as Recommended for 2026.
The dining room sits on the ground floor of the Floating Offices, reached by a footbridge behind Lantaren Venster. Tall windows and the terrace look across to Katendrecht and the Rotterdam skyline. The name nods to the nearby bridge known as the Hoerenloper, a reference to Katendrecht's former red-light district.
Chef Michael Schook runs the kitchen with co-owner Eva Eekman. The cooking is seasonal and leans vegetarian in places, with surprise menus of five to seven courses, small plates à la carte and a fully vegetarian set. Lekker500 placed Putaine in its Top 500 for 2026. Its reviewers singled out the langoustine tartare with yuzu cream and tonka bean vinaigrette, halibut with seaweed beurre blanc, and a cassia soufflé with blood orange and cardamom ice cream.
The wine list favours small producers, with biodynamic, natural and classic bottles chosen by sommelier Esmée Huurman. Bartender Helder Fortes Silva builds the cocktails around kitchen-inspired flavours and tries to minimise waste. The Aisha, for example, combines gin, saffron, olorosso sherry, jasmine and white chocolate.
