The story
Restaurant Moustique, at Oude Groenmarkt 8 in Haarlem, runs a French kitchen with International and modern touches under chef Jesse van Leeuwen and maître Jelmer Molendijk. The restaurant is listed as Michelin Recommended for 2026.
Van Leeuwen cooks with fresh regional produce, and the restaurant describes its menus as built on seasonal ingredients. Molendijk leads the dining room and explains the kitchen's plates to guests at the table. The Lekker500 guide, which ranked the restaurant in its Top 500 for 2026, noted the team's view that top quality need not be expensive, chic or formal.
A recent three-course menu opened with raw marinated trout over nashi pear jelly and jalapeño vinaigrette. The main course was slow-cooked beef brisket with creamy bean purée and a garlic crisp. The room has long upholstered benches, ochre-yellow chairs and white cotton napkins, with a view into the open kitchen. The heated terrace has heated cushions for cooler evenings.
