The story
ML in Haarlem serves a French kitchen with international accents at Klokhuisplein 5, 2011 HK, inside the historic Hotel ML. The restaurant earned one Michelin star in 2026 for high quality cooking, and it also appears in the Lekker500 Top 500 for the same year.
Owner-chef Mark Gratema cooks classic French dishes with contemporary techniques and international touches. Recent Lekker500 reviews describe a sea bass with cucumber, wasabi and ajo blanco, and a bouillabaisse made with cod, octopus and fennel. The menu offers a chef's menu of five to eight courses and a separate vegetarian version.
The dining room occupies the former courtyard of printer Johan Enschedé and the period room of his residence, where wood paneling and original doors remain. An open kitchen and a long chef's counter let guests watch the brigade at work. Hostess Liane Gratema leads the front of house, and sommelier Tim Jesse often pours from his own house selections. On sunny days, the terrace looks toward St. Bavo Church, and an adjacent bistro serves a more casual menu.
