The story
The Lobby Nesplein is a French kitchen at Nes 49 in Amsterdam, where the menu follows the seasons. Gault&Millau awarded it 13 points in 2026, and the Wine Spectator gave its wine list an Award of Excellence in 2025.
The menu changes with the seasons and relies on honest, local ingredients. The kitchen keeps the classics but bends them a little, which the house describes as traditional and daring, much like the city itself. Gault&Millau singled out salmon served with avocado among dishes that keep surprising regulars.
The wine list includes champagnes and bubblies by the glass, and it is the reason the Wine Spectator recognised the restaurant. Whisky drinkers will find the classic names and a few extras, and the bar also pours cocktails, gins and good beers. Candles light every table, but the spots by the fireplace are the ones to request.
Big soft leather sofas gather around the fireplace, and the room holds about 1000 candles. The team's own playlist sets the mood, and the service runs on warmth and dry humour rather than formality. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all served, so you can arrive with a coffee and pastry and stay for the evening.
