The story
The Lobby Fizeaustraat is a European restaurant at Fizeaustraat 2 in Amsterdam, part of Hotel V, with French and International dishes on a seasonal menu. Wine Spectator awarded the restaurant its Best of Award of Excellence in 2024, a recognition that rests largely on its wine cellar.
The large open kitchen sits at the centre of the room, and the menu changes with each season. Executive chef Jeroen van Spall leads the kitchen, which cooks with local ingredients and unexpected combinations. Diners can order à la carte, mix starters and mains, or build a longer meal of up to six courses. Reviewers have singled out a steak tartare with kimchi mayonnaise and a sous-vide egg yolk, and a bread-and-butter pudding with raisins and salted caramel ice cream.
The wine list is built like a winemaker's list, with bottles from small, independent producers, mostly in Burgundy, the Jura and Champagne. That focus earned the Wine Spectator award. Many wines are sold by the glass, and the bar also pours beer, cocktails and coffee for guests who stop in without a table booked.
The restaurant occupies a renovated 1970s building, and the interior was designed by the Hotel V project team. Exposed ceiling pipes, velvet chairs and black room dividers give it an industrial edge, while the lounge corner and bar keep the mood relaxed. The space suits both business lunches and dinners with friends.
