The story
De Juwelier is a French restaurant at Utrechtsestraat 51 in Amsterdam, and it earned one Michelin star in 2026 for its high quality cooking. The restaurant, run by Richard van Oostenbrugge and Thomas Groot, keeps a bistro format with à la carte ordering.
Wouter Wingelaar has led the kitchen since November 2024. The cooking gives pronounced ingredients plenty of room, including calf brains, sweetbreads, duck liver and pike perch. Dishes often arrive with rich sauces and classic garnishes such as mushroom duxelles and sauce salmis. Vegetarian options are limited and available on request.
Dark wood, starched linen napkins and Art Deco lamps give the room a mix of Parisian bistro and classic salon. Guests can sit at the bar beside the open kitchen or on the mezzanine overlooking the dining room. The basement is more private but feels small and dark. Service is friendly and relaxed, though it can lack sharpness at busy moments.
