The story
MEI is a Danish restaurant at Krommestraat 49 in Amersfoort, where chef Marco Blok builds the menu around local ingredients. Gault&Millau awarded it 13 points in 2026, and Michelin lists it as Recommended the same year.
Marco Blok composes and cooks every dish himself, following what the seasons bring. The menu favours simple, sustainable preparations built on high-quality local produce. Because he works alone in the kitchen, he cannot accommodate every allergy or diet. Vegetarian, pescatarian and shellfish orders are possible if noted at booking, while vegan, gluten-free and lactose-free meals are not offered.
The menu page lists oysters with cucumber and onion vinegar, beetroot with horseradish and sunflower, and pumpkin with Norwegian lobster, ginger and curry. Mains have included cabbage with goat's yoghurt and halibut, and celeriac with madeira and king oyster mushroom. Pear with sabayon, hazelnut and caramel closes the meal. A four-course menu is listed at 65 euros and a five-course at 75.
Gault&Millau describes a sleekly designed room with seating for twenty, run by Ingeborgh and Marco Blok as a duo. The restaurant's site says the couple stepped back from day-to-day work at the start of 2026. From 15 January, chef Tom Göbel and host Jord Hassink run the restaurant under the name "dichtbij mei".
