The story
le sputnik serves French cuisine at 7-9-9 Roppongi, Minato-ku, Tokyo, where it holds one Michelin star (2026) and a Gault&Millau score of 16 (2026).
Yujiro Takahashi opened le sputnik in 2015 as owner-chef. Before that he worked as sous chef at a one-star restaurant in Marunouchi and ran the kitchen of a one-star restaurant in Daikanyama. The kitchen builds its courses from seasonal ingredients, and each meal moves from the first course to the last in a sequence that follows the season.
The restaurant serves only a course menu, with separate lunch and dinner services and an option to add beef as the main course. The name comes from the Russian word for a travelling companion, and the team uses it to frame French tradition as something that can still take new directions.
