The story
Héritage by Kei Kobayashi is a French kitchen at 9-7-1 Akasaka, Minato-ku, in Tokyo, and it holds one Michelin star in the Michelin Guide Tokyo 2026. The restaurant sits within Tokyo Midtown and serves modern French cooking shaped by Japanese ingredients.
Kobayashi trained under Gilles Goujon and Alain Ducasse before opening Restaurant KEI in Paris in 2011. That French foundation carries through the menu, where classical technique meets Japanese produce. Ingredients stay local, seasonal and high quality, and the signature course Bijoux draws on the richness of Japan's terroir through French gastronomy.
The private dining room seats eight and suits intimate gatherings as well as private parties. The main room has white tablecloths and oversized floral arrangements, a formal setting that still feels easy to settle into. Forbes Travel Guide awards the restaurant Four-Star (2026), and every table faces the windows, so ask for a window seat for the city views.
