The story
Oryori Yamada is a Japanese kappo restaurant on the fourth floor at 4-7-7 Nishitemma, Kita-ku, Osaka, and it holds one Michelin Star for 2026. Chef-owner Akihiro Yamada serves a single omakase course, reservations only.
Yamada grew up watching his grandfather and father at Uosa, a seafood restaurant in Namba. He trained in Kitashinchi and opened his own place there before moving to Nishitemma in 2024. His kitchen starts with the stock, made from natural kombu and bonito that he adjusts daily as temperature and humidity change. Rice is cooked in a Kumoi kiln, and the vessels are mostly antiques.
The omakase costs 26,400 yen with tax, plus a 10% service charge. A spring example on the site opens with matsuba crab, Osaka kikuna and sesame tofu. It continues with Amakusa grouper in a clear soup with Senshu bamboo shoots, then cutlassfish and Hanano beef grilled over charcoal. The meal closes with a choice of rice dishes, including Okayama Momotaro rice, bamboo shoot rice and shrimp curry, and a butterbur-sprout ice cream. The Gault&Millau guide scored the restaurant 15.5 in 2026.
The counter seats nine, and a fully private room holds six more. Instead of a drinks list, the staff ask what you like and suggest sake, shochu, wine or Champagne to match the course. The site recommends smart casual dress.
