The story
KushinGarando is a Chinese restaurant on the fourth floor at 1-5-18 Sonezakishinchi, Kita-ku, Osaka. It holds one Michelin Star in 2026, awarded for high quality cooking.
Owner chef Hiroaki Osawa grew up in Osaka Prefecture and studied Chinese cooking at a culinary school, where he later taught for three years. He then went to Shanghai to learn the craft of xiaolongbao. He opened Shuchuka Kuushin in 2005, and in 2022 the restaurant moved to Kita-Shinchi and took the name Kuushin Garando. Gault&Millau rates it 16 in 2026.
The menu is a course that changes monthly, built on seasonal ingredients. Three tiers are offered: the Kuushin course at 16,500 yen, the Garando course at 19,800 yen and a Special course at 27,500 yen. Prices include tax, with a 10 percent service charge added. Wine pairing and tea pairing are available.
The dining room is a counter of ten seats. When the courses end, guests move to a table for dessert and Chinese tea. The setting is modeled on the teahouses of China and Taiwan. The restaurant can also be booked for private parties.
