The story
Al Capitan della Cittadella is a contemporary Italian seafood restaurant at piazza Cittadella 7/a in Verona, listed as Recommended by the Michelin Guide in 2026. The sea is the subject here, a few steps from the Arena.
Andrea Manzoli is owner, chef and captain of a young team. He opened the restaurant in 2005 as a joint project with his friend and partner Giancarlo Perbellini. Fish comes mostly from the Tyrrhenian and Adriatic markets, oysters from France, and vegetables from selected Italian growers. Seasonality shapes the menu, and ilGolosario awarded the kitchen a Faccino Radioso in 2026.
Venetian-style spider crab is the one to look for. Tubetti are finished with wild chicory, mussels, potatoes and charcoal oil. Red mullet and red prawn sit on a crab reduction with black garlic-scented artichoke, and a market grill covers the day's catch. Dessert is a lavender cheesecake with apple and lemon compote and salted caramel sauce.
Walls in shades of blue and nautical-inspired furniture give the dining room a calm, maritime feel. Service is cordial and precise. The wine list is solid and pairs well with the fish, and there is outdoor seating. Starters average €19, first courses €23, mains €30 and desserts €10. A three-course lunch menu costs €50, and the 20th Anniversary Menu runs six courses for €110.
