The story
Habbel's is a Mediterranean-leaning restaurant at Gevelsberger Straße 127 in Sprockhövel, listed under Wuppertal, and the Michelin Guide recommends it for 2026. The house has served guests since 1878.
Early customers were neighbours and passing coachmen. By the 1950s the inn had become a favourite excursion stop for the surrounding towns. Today the kitchen cooks with produce from its own raw vegetable plot and whatever the market offers. The menu changes constantly and runs from three to six courses, starting at €29. Traditional German dishes sit alongside French country cooking and international touches.
Scallops arrive under a mountain cheese and pumpkin seed crust on glass noodle salad. A curried poultry cream soup with coconut and ginger carries a fried prawn. Among the mains are pink-roasted duck breast in cassis sauce with coconut cauliflower, Iberian pork cheeks in red wine and rosemary jus, and lamb saddle under a parmesan herb crust. Fish gets its own section on the menu.
The wine list passes 1,000 positions, rarities included. The Schlemmer Atlas gave the restaurant 2 Kochlöffel in 2026. An attached distillery and shop ranks among Germany's 100 best-stocked whisky retailers. In warmer months the garden fronts the listed distillery building. For larger events, the American-style "Western Saloon" is available on request.
