The story
Weinhaus Zum Ritter in Wertheim serves Franconian country cooking from Rittergasse 2, and the Michelin Guide gave it a Bib Gourmand in 2026 for good quality, good value cooking.
The house has been run by the Hausin family since October 2004, with Thomas Hausin as head chef. His training began at the Burgrestaurant Staufeneck, and he later worked in kitchens including Hirsch Weinstuben in Stuttgart Möhringen, Sonne Post in Murrhard and Speisemeisterei in Stuttgart Hohenheim. He placed first in the Rudolf Achenbach Preis for Baden-Württemberg, and third nationally.
The building is rustic timber-framed and rubble-stone, with a cast-iron projecting sign and a short walk from the banks of the Main River. Guests can sit indoors or outside, and the kitchen is open to view. Guest rooms are available on site, so the restaurant can double as a place to stay after a long lunch.
