The story
Die Krone, at Hauptstraße 30 in Staufen im Breisgau (79219), is a German country cooking restaurant that the Michelin Guide listed with a Bib Gourmand for 2026, citing good quality, good value cooking. The restaurant is run by the Lahn family.
The kitchen cooks regional Baden dishes alongside lighter creative country cooking. Fresh ingredients from the region drive the menus, which change with the season. The carpaccio of Münstertäler veal with hazelnuts and Belper knolle shows that approach on the starter list.
House-cured venison ham and ox cheek are the dishes the Schlemmer Atlas singles out, earning the inn 2,5 Kochlöffel for 2026. Three menus are served: the Schloßbergmenü at €46, a vegetarian menu at €45, and the Kronenmenü at €64. The weekly special has included ox cheek on potato and carrot mash.
The inn is documented from 1520 and was known as a Gasthaus by 1848, when it was a site of the Baden Revolution. Guests now eat in the historic Gaststube, where the cellar supplies wines from the region and from estates further afield. Families and companies also book the restaurant for private celebrations.
